Facial Volume Loss

Treatments for facial volume loss

As we age, bone structure changes, skin loses elasticity, and fat cells decrease, resulting in sagging skin that makes us look older, tired, angry or worried, even when we don’t actually feel that way.

It happens partly because our bodies are producing less hyaluronic acid, which is vital to maintaining connective tissues. The primary component of dermal filler is the very hyaluronic acid our bodies aren’t producing enough of. When it’s injected in proper amounts, it can restore some that lost volume and lift sagging skin. The overall result is a more youthful, less tired, less angry appearance that looks natural and age-appropriate. The goal isn’t to reverse the clock, it’s to “look good for your age.”

Under-eye area: The shape of the orbital rim (the bone under our eyes) changes over time. When you pair that with the loss of the fat pads in that area, it can result in an unwanted “hollowing.” Once the cheeks have been lifted with filler, the delicate under-eye area can be conservatively targeted for a less tired, more refreshed look.

Lips: Your lips also lose volume over time, thinning and becoming prone to fine lines. To get adequate results, it is usually necessary to treat the cheeks, chin and area around the mouth first. Once that has been addressed, fillers can be used to restore lip volume. Dr. Humniski is very careful to consider overall facial proportions when volumizing lips – her goal is always a natural look that will have you looking fresher and younger, but never “done.”
